Goodwood revival is a 3 day Vintage Festival comprising vintage car races and vintage fashion from the 1920's-1960's. It is held annually, every September.
The festival is one of the flagship events that Goodwood Estate Hosts during the year and has definitely become one of my favourites. If you love vintage clothes, cars, and anything vintage, this is a real gem of a festival that you must see.
I felt that I had stumbled across a little bit of magic at Goodwood Revival; it was as if I was transported back in time and EVERYONE played their part, like I was in a romantic, vintage movie.
Looking at the photos just doesn't justify the atmosphere, you need to experience it. At the end of the day even the historic war planes that zoomed across the sky gave me goosebumps. I actually felt a little sad when I stepped out of the time warp of Goodwood Revival and back to reality.
I really enjoyed the swing dancing, old school charm, elegantly dressed gentlemen, women with pin curls, and beautiful vintage millinery.
During the day I met: sailors in costumes playing boat games, generals, pilots, captains in uniform smoking cigars together, race car drivers walking around with big goggles on their smoke-covered faces in overalls, well-groomed ladies getting pin curls done at the vintage hair salons ..... not to mention the swing dancing, vintage cars and even babies dressed and transported in vintage prams and outfits.
The costumes are so well researched, everyone makes such an effort and it's such a beautiful atmosphere.
The Best Dressed is organised and run by Men's file magazine. They hold a men's and ladies' Best Dressed each day, and they handpick a few attendees as winners. The prizes are nothing grand, but I feel it is more the honour of being picked by the judges.
This year the judges, editors of Men's File magazine, were near a small truck which was also used as a vintage photo-booth. The photographs are truly amazing, they really do take you back in time. And all of these people are attendees, they are not actors! So you can see, the costumes are serious business...
Where to find Men's File best Dressed;
Look on the map that comes with your tickets, or ask for information about the Men's file magazine Best Dressed if you are trying to find it. The Best Dressed is of a very high standard, competitors have researched and properly sought vintage attire. It was interesting watching judges selecting entrants, they were very seriously assessing period costumes and unique outfits.
I recommend doing research about your outfit if you are hoping to be selected for this fashion event- It is taken very seriously! The judges are very knowledgable and many people can tell you the story of their outfit, or they could be wearing uniforms and medals from their older relatives; but mostly all is real vintage.
Where is it?
It's very easy to get to Goodwood Revival, just hop on a train in central London and enjoy the beautiful scenic trip out to the English countryside, 1.5 hours. A bus waits at Chichester train station leaving at intervals all day (£6.50 return) to get the event.
Goodwood Estate Is south of London. Goodwood is a large, beautiful, green, private estate, complete with horse race track where "Goodwood Festival" is held (horse racing), and a car racing track- where "Goodwood Revival" is held (car racing) annually.

What is there to do?
So many things!
If you enjoy retail shopping there is a vintage market outside of the gates, good for vintage clothing, hats and lots of antique items. The days are jam-packed full of people watching, vintage car races and a lot things to see and do. I walked through an old bus station, complete with an attendant, asking for my ticket to board the bus... how fun :) and then I walked through an alleyway with old vintage posters of music concerts and broadway shows.
So what to do?: retail vintage shop, swing dance to a live band, walk through the festival and see the many vintage installations, go to a vintage hair salon or barber and get your hair done, vintage style, get vintage make-up done, see the rare vintage cars on show in the museum, watch as the vintage cars pull out of the pits to race around the tracks, check out the vintage cars by years, and watch the old planes jet across the skies.
There was also a vintage ball, where I noticed a lot of ladies were getting their hair done, so you could go along to that as well.
Goodwood Revival is a suitable daytime family event, especially for car enthusiasts. It can also be a Hen's Party, it can be an outing for friends, and I also met a lot of people who were staying for the weekend to enjoy the festival over the three days. In the evenings bars and tents stay open to party the night away with fellow Goodwooders.
Organise your tickets early to avoid disappointment, tickets often sell out early when they go on sale, as it's such a great event and people plan a long way ahead.
Hope you enjoyed my blog, I will definitely be going back next year and probably stay for a few days. I have marked it on my calender for one of those events that I just can't miss!
